Local Partners/Vegetable Growers to Benefit

Pizza Hut Africa in  growing its  brand across Africa offers local  partners franchise opportunities while also sourcing its raw materials such as tomatoes and other vegetables locally thereby, offering local  vegetable growers ready market as an incentive to expand production.

Cultivators of vegetables needed for producing the pizzas would however have to meet the prescribed quality standards.

Through this approach, Pizza Hut, which made its entrance into Sub-Saharan Africa three and half years today, is poised to impact Africa’s development positively while growing its global brand on the African continent moving forward.

Currently with 100 restaurants in Africa Pizza Hut Africa plans to open 250 restaurants in Africa by 2021

These were disclosed in Ghana’s capital city of Accra, last week during an African Development magazine’s (ADM) exclusive pre launch interview with visiting Ewald Davenport, General Manager of Pizza Hut Africa.

Mr. Davenport was in Accra on a 14 cities tour in 12 African countries within 22 days to launch, its Africa Literacy Project in partnership with Slice Africa and as part of its corporate social responsibility on the continent.

Even though Africa has many development challenges, Pizza Hut Africa finds the education sector challenge most debilitating and therefore needed some affirmative action

Mr. Davenport noted that out of the one billion worldwide who cannot read, Africa alone accounts for 280 million .Therefore using the “catching them young” strategy Pizza Hut Africa believes, would stem the tide.Funds for the project,Mr.Davenport said,was going to be derived from its customers voluntary donations.

Later launching the Ghana edition on Friday,6th April of the Africa Literacy Project, the pilot phase of which is to kick off on September 8th ,2018,Mr. Davenport told the first batch of beneficiaries to take good advantage of the opportunity of offering those Red Reading Boxes that contained reading aid instead of Pizza

“At 10 you learn to read but when you are passed 10 you read to learn” he drew the attention of the school children who were excited with the contents of the boxes.

The campaign is Pizza Hut Africa’s contribution to the company’s global initiative called Pizza Hut.Established in 2016, Pizza Hut’s Literacy Project was created to encourage literacy through providing reading resources and engaging customers to make a difference for the cause.

In its first year, the global campaign impacted 15.9 million people and distributed more than 275,000 books and educational resources to communities in the U.S., Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica and South Africa.
