KINDLY SHARE YOUR THOUGHT ON LEADERSHIP VACUM IN AFRICA, HOW CAN WE REMEDY THIS .AND WHAT ROLE WILL THE CHURCH PLAY?
The leadership vacuum in Africa is systemic, and we need to urgently address this before it gets out of hand. The effective leadership model can be implanted in Africa through the overhauling of our education system to give an insight into the need and aspiration of man. Many people spend greater part of their lives grouping in the dark about what is their calling in life. As a young boy while in class four, I was fascinated by medical workers. I went to the hospital to ask a doctor what it will entail to become a medical doctor. He gave me all the information, and that became a compass on which I followed until I became a medical doctor, even when I was admitted for Biochemistry, I changed to medicine immediately the opportunity came. We need to catch our youth young, understanding their purpose, interest and nurtured them to greatness. As a church we support personal development. I am a teacher and an excellent communicator. This helps us to impact positively our congregation on how to be an effective leader. We have an institute devoted to leadership training, and I also have a burning desire to establish a university that will focus mainly on leadership. Navigating into the known & unknown require adequate planning. The government should be supported to focus on the youth by counselling and shaping their future through what they have the capacity and passion to do effectively.
INTEGRITY IS A MUST HAVE ATTRIBUTE OF COMPETENT LEADERSHIP, WHAT ARE THE FUNDAMENTALS THAT CAN PROMOTE INTEGRITY IN OUR CONTINENT?
Integrity is a must have attribute of competent and effective leadership. The only way to attain this is to go back to the basics. Before we can have an internalised integrity focus in any system,we must ask our ourselves, if the system is taking care of the people. In a society where the level of poverty is frightening, how do you bring integrity into the equation. Where people are eking to make a living. We must pay life wages, ensure that the business environment encourages people to be on their own without looking for government job. A less emphasis on paper qualification because nobody pays you for the certificates, you are paid for the solution you bring to the table through set skills you have. The government must enforce he integrity of our infrastructure to galvanize development. We cannot reach our potential in agriculture with hoes& cutlass farming when we have vast arable land but where are the equipment to be used for mechanised and where the irrigation isystem?. The urgent work for government is to make the business environment friendly by providing energy which will stabilise the economy. Our leadership also needs to lead by example to encourage the followers to emulate them.
WHAT IS YOUR VIEW ON THE INVOLVEMENT OF THE CHURCH IN EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA, AND HOW CAN WE SUSTAIN IT?
3)Education is unarguably the bed rock of development. But the education we need today must be suited to the challenges we are facing as a nation. The church has a very positive role to play in using education development as setting up of school to impact God centred leaning that will bring out the best in the students. However, compared to the past when missionaries set-up school to reduce the pressure on government alone and set standards, but what we have today is the commercialisation of the schools. I know that education development is capital intensive, but if the focus from onset is not to make profit, the cost element will reflect the vision vice versa. On our own we have just got the approval to start our school which will focus on bridging the gaps between those that have and those that don’t have. No child should be deprived of education because of poverty. Ours is to intervene and bring succour to these children. That is why we have many children we are supporting through scholarships to achieve their dream. I feel a great sense of relief when their school bills are settled as at when due.
ONE OF THE MAJOR ASSET THAT AFRICA HAS IS THE VAST YOUTHFULL POPULATION THAT IS HARDLY ENGAGED PRODUCTIVELY. HOW CAN NIGERIAN YOUTH BE INTEGRATED TO DRIVE PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT?
This is something that is close to my heart. We must engage them productively not in a rent seeking manner. Our national economic strategy must be highly inputted by the youths. Our agricultural policy must absorb the youths in a unique fashion with modern farm implements and high yielding seedling given out to them to drive the self-sustaining economic revolution. But we need data to plan for this, do we really have an idea of youth unemployment country by country in Africa. Is the education given to them in tandem with the economic reality of today? What role are we giving them in the society, especially in our environment? We must identify set skills that is essential for development and make sure they can assess this skills effortlessly. It is sad that most of our graduates end up doing work that are not related to their studies. What a waste of time & resources. The youth must be helped to identify its strength and develop along that line which will make them useful to the larger society. We must not just encourage certificates that will not develop the economy. Ou policy, makers needs to look at these and make amends to give the youth the opportunity to excel and contribute their own quota to nations development in Africa.
