Despite starting 2019 Afcon qualifiers on a low note, Harambee Stars coach Stanley Okumbi says there is no cause for alarm.
The East African nation fell 2-1 to minnows Sierra Leone on Saturday, suffering first defeat in 12 outings. Okumbi has also justified the inclusion of Kariobangi Sharks striker Masoud Juma, who was selected ahead of league’s top scorer Stephen Waruru. “We were unfortunate to lose, we played well even when we were a man less. It is only that we did not take our chances, otherwise it could have been a different story.
“We now have to turn our attention to forthcoming matches which we must register positive result. It is not a guarantee that just because you have scored more goals in the league you will start matches. We had our tactical reasons why we started Juma ahead of Waruru.”
Kenya will play host to Ghana in the next qualifier next year.
