AGRF 2017 Takes Off in Abidjan on Monday

The 7th African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF 2017) held under the theme,”Accelerating Africa’s Path to Prosperity: Growing Inclusive Economies and Jobs through Agriculture” kick starts on Monday in Abidjan preceded by an  all day Dialogue on Research to Support Agricultural Transformation in Francophone Countries of West and Central Africa

 As  a separate program that precedes the main event,it seeks to examine the transformations under- way in West African agriculture, and the challenges faced by smallholder production systems. The moderators are  by Prof. Hortense Atta Diallo, Vice-President, University Nangui Abrogoua, Cote d’Ivoire and Hon. Ramata Ly-Bakayoko, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Cote d’Ivoire

 Sessions Speakers include,Mr. Santiago Alba, Associate Director, Agriculture and Environment, IDRC,Ms. Patricia McCullagh, Ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire, Republic of Canada,Dr. Abdou Tenkouano, Executive Director, CORAF,Dr. Kimseyinga Savadogo, Professor, International Food Policy Research Institute,Dr.Dominique Charron, Director, Agriculture and Environment, IDRC,Dr. Harold-Roy McCauley, Director General, Africa Rice among others.

 The 2017 AGRF is intended to foster continued community knowledge sharing and collaboration, to highlight good practices, regional innovation, and various challenges that need to be addressed, and to showcase financial and technical resources that are available to help drive development in the continent’s agriculture sector.

 Most importantly, the Forum aims to continue to be an accountability platform to allow constituents to take stock of progress made to date and to challenge one another to redouble efforts in the coming year.

 The various components of AGRF will include: Optimal B2B Engagement– through breakfasts, lunches, dinners and organized stakeholder networking sessions utilizing e technology platforms, such as Whova.com,Big Idea Plenaries– this aspect of the Forum incorporates selected plenary discussions,Community of Practice Fora,Six AGRF Thematic Group discussions, key development priorities,Interactive Workshops and Empirical Knowledge Sharing

 To lend their support to the Host,H.E.President Allasane Ouattara,other sitting and former African Presidents and as well as incumbent African Ministers and former ones are expected to be in attendance.

They include,H.E. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete Former President, Tanzania,H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo Former President, Nigeria, H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia,H.E. Dr. Eyasu Abraha Alle, Minister of Agriculture, Republic of Ethiopia,Issa Martin Bikienga, former Minister of Agriculture, Burkina Faso

Those whose participation were  yet to be confirmed as at Press time today, are their Excellencies, Presidents Faure Gnassingbé, President of Togo,Alpha Conde, Guinea,Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, and Patrice Talon, President of Benin.

H.E. John Kufuor, former  President of the Republic of Ghana and Chairman of John A. Kufuor Foundation who has been invited is also expected to be in attendance

The ADM is privy to information that the total earmarked number of 750 participants has since been exceeded as the event tends to have been over subscribed

The event is being jointly hosted by the Ivorian government,AGRA and the AfDB  with the sponsorship by YARA,FAO,OCP Africa,The Rocky Feller Foundation among numerous others.
