A new vista of hope has opened for Nigeria boxers, especially in Ibadan the capital city of Oyo State as Ibadan based boxing promoter, Ayo Olaniyi, who owns Extreme Boxing Promotion has concluded plans to launch a sports arena dubbed Ringii Sports Entertainment Hub sited along the ever busy Ring-road axis of Ibadan.
The rationale behind putting up the edifice according to the young promoter popularly known as Iyanda’badan is to revive the dying boxing sports in Nigeria, especially Oyo State that is reputed for producing notable boxers for the country and has the highest numbers of boxers according to Oyo State Amateur Boxing Association (OSABA) data.
“The idea is to give our professional boxing a new face and the boxers’ new lease of life. I have signed about 20 boxers into the stable of the Extreme Boxing Promotion with aim to avail them every necessary input that will aid their career.
“This arena will also be hosting other sporting activities, especially indoor games, but we have major preference for boxing, and that is why our professional boxers would be nurtured here and engaged in contest bouts to the admiration of boxing enthusiasts on a regular basis, just as its being done in the developed world.
“It will profitably be beneficial to the numerous boxers that used to train without having platform to exhibit the skills, as we are going to hugely invest into the future of these promising fighters.
“Part of the factors I discovered lacking and militating against the development of our sports in this part of the world are availability of good facilities, motivations and good sporting business orientation and those are what Extreme Boxing Promotion is out to address”, Iyanda’badan explained in chat with the sporting press in Ibadan.
Meanwhile, the President of Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) Dr. RafiuLadipo has lauded the initiative and drive of the new promoter, describing him has the new ‘African Don King’ and a blessing to the boxing sport.
Also commending Iyanda’badan was the Chairman of Oyo State Chapter of the NBBofC Hon GbengaOpaleye and the Chairman of the amateur arms of the game Chief Baron Akintunde Opaleye, while the daughter of the late Ibadan based promoter Chief Francis Aiyegbeni, Edna Aiyegbeni who also promotes young boxers in the state thumps up the owner of the new boxing hub.
