Ebute-Ajebo Residents in a peaceful protest.

The people of Ebute-Ajebo Residents Association of Imota Local Council Developmental Area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria are appealing to Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode the Executive Governor of Lagos State to in a matter of urgency stop a company known as New Town Development Authority to leave their over three hundred hectares of land alone.

This was made known through a protest march in the area by the affected land owners headed by Chief Muraino Onafunya the Chairman of Ebute-Ajebo Residents Association who explained that the community has suffered in the past without any form of compensation from both the government and agencies that end up acquiring the land, that the resident have lost huge portion of their land to over eight government agencies without any compensation.

The government has used their power to collect our land to build primary school, U.P.A, maternity, grammar school rice mill, estate, police station and even the local government secretariat is situated on our land without any compensation and now they are coming through New Town Development Authority to collect over 355 hectares of land from us without any negotiations from any of us’ Onafunya said.

The six families affected feared that their ancestral land will be taken away just like that from them without any form of agreement from the government, that there should be a form of negotiations before such action take place and that the government should try and understand their plights.

Mr. Adesanya Temitope Obaodo the Secretary of Ebute-Ajebo Residents Association complained that government have been coming to forcefully take their land without any form of compensation that they are suspecting that some people are trying to hide under the disguise of New Town Development Authority to steal their land from them then sighting example of an ongoing estate construction there now that they have extended their fence further than what they measured on their map.

In an effort to meet with Chief Wasiu Adekunle Agoro the Chairman of Imota Local Council Developmental Area of Ikorodu wasn’t successful because he was not around when the protesters visited though the protesters marched to the palace of Ranodu of Imota but was attended to by Chief Baba Sanya the Olotu Omooba of Imota who addressed the protesters and promising them that he will deliver their message to the Oba when he returns.

On this note, Mr. Gbemi Adenuga a member of the Odusanya family said that he was impressed at the way the Ebute-Ajebo Resident did this protest march that it now show that nobody can take them for a ride again. ‘

Look, in the past, these people will just come to fence our land and use it for whatever they like without consulting anybody but that today things have change that the era lawlessness is over that they are appealing to

Mr. Akinwunmi Amobode to please come to our aids fast’ Adenuga said. Even with heavy down-pour the six affected families’ turn-up for the protest successfully showing that their messages have been sent to the appropriate quarters of the state.

Chief Muraino Onafunya believes that the agencies that want any portions of their land should follow due process instead of acquiring their land through the back door.
