Cultural exchange programmes: tool to solve social vices among youths – Lawmaker

Mr Oghene Egoh

Mr Oghene Egoh, a lawmaker on Monday said that cultural exchange programmes among states and ethnic groups were veritable tools for solving social vices and challenges in the country.

Egoh, the member representing Amuwo Odofin Federal constituency at the House of Representatives, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that culture ”is an instrument for achieving unity within the country.

“Cultural exchange programmes will educate and enlighten one to know about the culture of many tribes in the country.

“If that is known, there won’t be rancour between one ethnic group and the other, ” he said.

Egoh added that culture should be made a compulsory subject in schools so that the young ones would be educated on the lifestyle, norms and culture of other ethnic groups.

“It is important for us to know our diverse culture for future coalitions.

“Understanding our diverse culture is very important in solving social vices in the country.

“With that, we will be able to accommodate ourselves and live together in peace and as one Nigeria,” he said.

Egoh urged all the traditional rulers and culture enthusiasts to educate and inform people around them on the relevance of culture to national development.

He urged Nigerian youths to embrace their various culture, plan cultural activities that would bring about culture exchange among their peer groups to enhance cultural integration.

Egoh reiterated his commitments towards better representation of his constituency.

He said that he would continue to serve his constituency better and provide all the basic infrastructure needed to better their lives.

“I will continue to move motions that will solve the constituency challenges and provide them with quality standard of living,” he said.
