A Non-Governmental Organisation, (NGO), Live Abundantly Empowerment Initiative, has commended the innovative of Lagos youth as it pledges its continuous support to improve on their skills. Dr Ama Onyerinma, the founder of the NGO told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday. She said this against the backdrop of the ongoing 50days celebrations of Lagos at 50th anniversary in Lagos State.
She applauded the scientific works created and displayed by the students of Lagos State institutions, as part of activities to mark the state’s 50th anniversary and every other activities exhibited. She noted that there was need to improve and sustain the ability of the innovators through necessary support from government and private entities. She also commended the initiative of the Lagos State Government and most importantly the Permanent Secretary, Lagos Education District for talents discovery of the children in several institutions of learning across the State.
Onyerinma stressed the need for all Nigerians irrespective of challenges and background, to accommodate each other and add meaningful value to the society. “As we celebrate the city we call our home, I recognise that all of us in this mega city is ‘Living With Something’ challenges.
“These should not be the definition of our existence, the true catalyst for a better life is what “We Live For” and it is important as citizens to recognise and understand that our personal survival and development rest with us, individually and collectively.
“In line with the mission at Live Abundantly Initiative, to uphold the civil liberties of women and children. “Thus, securing their future, through information, advocacy and education, we participate in celebrations of Lagos at 50th anniversary to celebrate the children and their ingenuity ,while we will also raise support for them to attain their goals,” she said.
She said that her organisation has empower several women and children on education literacy,gender equality advocacy and also “Kick against domestic violence”.
Onyerinma said that her NGO would continue to provide support for women empowerment programmes and also development of children’s innate talent.
The Permanent Secretary ,Lagos Education District IV, Mrs Lola Are-Adegbite,while commending the efforts of the children,reiterated the importance of science discoveries to the world at large ranging from communication, transportation and human consumption.
“It is imperative to note that these young scientists have become technologically driven and we can simply accept the fact that they are fertile ground for amazing inventions in the nearest future.”
Some of the innovations on exhibition included:Solar fan/security alarm, tuber recycling machine,fire alarm system, production of insecticide from plant,recycling of saw dust to wood briquettes, production of bio gas from animal excretion among many others.
