The organisers of Akwaaba Africa Travel Market, an annual travel and tourism trade conference and exhibition in Lagos, Nigeria has confirmed that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, will headline the African Tourism Diaspora Conference, which is one of the scheduled programmes for this year’s event billed to hold between September 22 and 24.
Akwaaba now in its 15th year, will have the traditional ruler speak not only to the Yoruba nation but a global audience on focusing on and integrating African cultures to develop the continent. According to the Ooni of Ife, “there are over 500 million Yorubas across the world and the ancestral home of Ile-Ife is ready to welcome them when they visit Nigeria.”
Therefore, he stated that the African Tourism Diaspora Conference is a great platform and timely for this important conversation to be held. The conference is schedule to hold on September 23 alongside other activities for the day.
The goals of the conference include: (EPN – Educate, Promote, Network): Serving as an educational tool for international leaders regarding cultural heritage tourism; Promoting visitation and tourism to participating countries, cities and destinations to help to stimulate their economies; and Networking among thought leaders and bridging the gap.
While some of the presentations and discussions will be centred on: African Tourism Diaspora Conference spotting the year of return; Uniting African Cultures together; The Year of return: Connecting Africa and its diaspora. Actions, challenges and the future; and African Heritage of the Caribbean: connecting the dots.
